Phillip McCarthy

Phil has more than 35 years of experience in the Australian coal industry in both senior management and industry strategic roles. Recently, he has been involved in advising mining and manufacturing companies on corporate strategy, value creation, acquisitions and divestment via his consultancy business.

Phil was chief executive officer and managing director of Powercoal Limited for over a decade, before the company was acquired by Centennial Coal Company Limited. In addition, he has been a member of the Australian Coal Association and the Executive Committee, NSW Minerals Council.

For the last six years, Phil has acted as chairman to the International Committee for Coal Research. Phil is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Australian Institute of Management and the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Phil is Chairman of the WDS Audit & Risk Management Committee and a member of the Health, Safety, Environment & Community Committee, Remuneration & Nomination Committee and the Corporate Strategy & Business Development Committee.
