Environment

The world is becoming more aware of the impact of people, projects, companies and countries on the environment. WDS offers environmental commitment, responsibility and accountability for all our activities.

WDS actively promotes high environmental standards within the company. By suitably educating our workforce and encouraging our people to apply these environmental practices, we will minimise our effect on the environment and save money.

WDS are accredited to AS/NZS ISO 14 001:2004 Environmental management systems-Requirements with guidance for use and rigorously apply the management systems across all our operations. Bringing our systems and our culture to every project we work on ensures our environmental management is of the highest standard.

Environmental initiatives adopted by WDS include the following:

  • Increasing Environmental awareness through an Environmental Poster series
  • Training in Environmental Awareness
  • Promoting electronic mediums to avoid unnecessary printing
  • Worm farms and recycling bins at various offices
  • iSEE Driver Training Program
  • Paper recycling bins in all offices
  • Evaluation of office lighting systems to identify energy saving opportunities
  • Development of environmental procedures and checklists to help sites manage their environmental requirements

The Jackson-Moomba Oil Pipeline is an example of our environmental commitment. On this project, an estimate of most of the greenhouse gases emitted during construction by WDS was made by Greenfleet (a not-for profit organisation) who then facilitated the purchase and planting of 16,345 native species of tress on the Company's behalf. This carbon offsetting is known as biosequestration, and is one of a number of WDS environmental initiatives.
